R&B Musical Group
“I Won’t Have Any Babies For You”, is a very rare two sided soul recording / flip “POW”, by “The Bitter & The Sweet”, released in Detroit in ’72. The group is out of Detroit’s North End Northern High School, and Detroit’s Mumford High.
It featured Adrienne Bolden, Katherine Hamilton, Victor Williams, Kenny Jackson & LeRoi Coleman Jordan.
The tune is written by Floyd Johnson and The Bitter & The Sweet, produced by Floyd Johnson, and arranged by Motown Record’s Funk Brother Lead Guitarist Robert White, the creator and player, of one of the most recognizable opening guitar intro licks in Soul & Rock on The Temptation’s “My Girl” hit.
The Funk Brothers, Motown’s studio house band with Earl Van Dyke on piano, played the musical track, (as they did on every hit song that came out of Motown).
When first released in ’72, radio stations would not give it airplay, saying it was too controversial. The song resurfaced years later and became a dance hall favorite through out The United Kingdom, Japan, Latin America, Australia and now the USA, their home, via digital streaming.
The original, Bitter & The Sweet vinyl 45 record is such a rare piece of music that it’s now in demand by fans and record collectors worldwide, and the vinyl has sold for up to $575 on eBAY.
